The right to bear arms is a fundamental right protected by the Constitution of both the United States and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and has long been supported by the Kentucky Sheriffs Association (KSA) and Kentucky’s elected Sheriffs. As both Constitutional officers and sworn peace officers, each of Kentucky’s Sheriffs has a duty to protect and serve our communities and display the leadership needed to ensure public safety. In doing so, each Sheriff swore an oath to faithfully uphold the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution and laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Now more than ever, Kentucky’s Sheriffs need to ensure that citizens always feel safe, whether at home or in their communities, and the Second Amendment is crucial to this by providing law-abiding gun owners the ability to protect and defend themselves.
